"I became addicted to alcohol and drugs at an early age. Since then I’ve had many short periods of sobriety; all of which were attempts to stay clean on my own willpower.
I got married in 2003 and started a family, holding decent jobs and earning a great reputation. I was known as an awesome dad, a great husband, and someone you could count on. I have three beautiful daughters. One daughter was born with autism and is now eight years old.
During the course of this time, I have had several devastating relapses, each one worse than the last crippling my ability to provide a safe and loving home for my girls. I was no longer the fun loving, comforting, and responsible daddy that they knew. My wife, who had recently been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, had finally run out of energy due to overworking to pay bills, dealing with me on drugs, and the lack of my participation in our family. She could not take it anymore.
At this point the drugs had taken my sanity completely away and no one knew what to do with me. With failed attempts to get me committed into a mental health hospital, my family knew that Teen Challenge was our only hope. Upon arriving at Faith Home Adult and Teen Challenge in March of 2019, I was broken, addicted to drugs, and completely out of touch with reality.
After a few days the students encouraged me to come join them for Wednesday night chapel where our Executive Director, Pastor Rick Souza, was teaching us about the Holy Spirit and the influence he has in our lives. At the end of his sermon, he put his arm around me, and said something I’ll never forget. He said, “Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t get better. With God, you can accomplish anything if you set your mind on Him.”
I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit, and I believe that night began to heal me. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” I gave my mind, heart, and soul to the Lord that night, and He restored me back to my family. My wife can now rest, make her jewelry, and live in peace. My special little lady bug has her daddy back. My daughters Analysa and Alora have their fun loving dad that they can count on. I thank my family, FHTC, and God for bringing me back. I pray that every man who comes through these doors has a life changing experience."
